Rock N' Pop at the Lowry

I'm such a sucker for rock n' roll photos. I couldn't resist gravitating to this campaign advertising an exhibition of Jane Brown's iconic Rock photos at the Lowry Museum when I saw it on Le Book.

The photographer of the campaign is Paul Moffat.

Ralph Steadman from Fear and Loathing to Flying Dog

Last night in the car I listened in on a conversation about the label art for Flying Dog Beer. Turns out they weren't lying, artist and long time friend of Hunter S. Thompson, Ralph Steadman is responsible for these grimy illustrations that are a perfect fit for the brand who's ale names are full of greasy entendre.

The brewery was also part of a lengthy legal dispute over the beer's original statement that Steadman bestowed on them, "Good Beer, No Shit" ...they won.

There are also a ton of images and artwork on the Flying Dog Flikr page.

More than Pandas for the World Wildlife Federation

Lately I've been really consumed with global horrors like Darfur and Burma, it's really upsetting and makes me feel helpless.

These WWF ads reverted my attention to another global environmental cause that seems slightly less impossible. I love the use of the iconic brand image to point to other areas of the WWFs continuing fights and successes. The campaign comes via BBH China.

Lipstick Films Goes Graffiti in Cannes Bathrooms

On the way to meet the fabulous women behind a soon to launch beauty based production company Lipstick Films I stopped into the "the best bathroom in Cannes" the Martinez. This is what I was greeted with.
I knew I was gonna like these ladies, what better way to promote the company than lipstick on a mirror - perfect.

Finnish Sauna Party

Yes, I am still decompressing from Cannes - trying to reach out to those I met and remember (thank you Facebook.) One of the highlights of my week was the Finnish Sauna Party.

David Byrne is "Playing the Building" in New York

David Byrne has opened an installation in New York, "Playing the Building" which is free to the public. The video explains it all, but he has transformed an old empty building into a giant musical instrument, playing the pipes, windows and radiators.

There is something grotesquely beautiful about these graphic ads from Saatchi&Saatchi Amsterdam for the Animal Brigade.

Paper Doll Comes to Life for Rexona

I thought this spot was so cute when I saw it, its girly, its retro, its animated. But what's up with the end tag? It doesn't belong there at all!

The spot is one in a campaign of Paper Dolls for Rexona directed by Peter Thwaites of Gorgeous London.

Hello & Co

Two long time associated companies, HKM and Rockfight - both amazing in their own right, have finally officially joined forces, the result - Hello & Co.

EP's Ned Brown, Carl Swan and Melissa Culligan are captaining the ship together. Not only is their site styled in a great graphic motif, but they announced the launch with this animated promo in a similar tone.

I'm recovering from a whirl wind trip to NY for AICP, or as many of us dubbed it, the prom of the advertising industry.

Amtrak's Art Deco Acela Ads

I'm in New York today for work. I take the train here from Boston, I love it - puts me to sleep every time.

I also really like the posters Amtrak has all over Penn Station advertising the Acela Express. They are graphic and art deco inspired. They remind me of the WPA National Parks posters from the 1930's and 40's and the ads for the maiden voyage of the Queen Mary. I think they have an air of old school sophistication to them or something, at least thats what they evoke in me, a time when traveling was a privilege.
