Miniatures Used to Magnify Pollutants in Light Bulb Production

In a new PSA for WWF, miniatures shot against real life locations help to illustrate the unfortunatley filthy process of creating and environmentally "friendly" light bulb.

Directors Woods + Low of OPC credit the choice to use miniatures as a way to circomvent the over utilized stock footage that most audiences have become desensitized by. The “art installations filmed on location” combined with the gloomy monochromatic footage and bright pink product to illustrate the narative of the journey of the light bulb through production to our hands.

A Peek Inside the Worlds of Gaelle Denis

Director Gaelle Denis recently created this new spot for Dupont, "Open Science" with the help of VFX firm MassMarket in a miniature world that is a hybrid of CG and actual models. The experimental filmmaking style results in a unique commentary on reality. What is it about miniatures that forces you to look so closely?



Denis is an expert at creating alternative universes using animation and miniatures, the result is always an extreme version of the world. Her short films, "City Paradise" and "Fish Never Sleep" are whimsical and oozing with creativity, and give us a great sense of the signature this director is sure to carry with her as her career undoubtably progresses. Buck Builds Toyota "Through The Roof"

Production/animation company Buck built a model city for the new Toyota Corolla to cruise around...and suck the best amenities in 'Through the Roof.' The visual style of the world isn't trying to look photo real yet at the same time it's not a cartoon - it's almost like a match box car world, you can imagine guiding the Corolla through the streets exploring and creating the story of how it got from point A to point B.



Buck also has a behind the scenes piece on their site, which i love. The production design and miniatures involved in this spot make watching the creative process extra fun...if you like that sort of thing.
