Ellen Von Unwerth Personifies for Absolut

With the help of Kate Beckinsale and Zooey Deschanel, photographer Ellen Von Unwerth brings classic cocktails to life for Absolut Vodka. I love the parallel between the Bloody Mary and the classic ghost story i was brave enough to test out in the bathroom mirror at a slumber party or two as a child.

Rock n' Roll Wouldn't Be the Same Without Whisky

Nice use of some bad ass logos, don't you think?

Stella McCartney Frolics with Bambi

Ryan McGinley snaps these woodland goddesses at rest with the woodland creatures of the Disney Classic Bambi. I love them! My only comment is i wish there were more. The bright animated characters add a fantastic layer of whimsy to what might otherwise be a solemn aesthetic, the fashion fitting is beautifully with the fall forest.

Glamour Beauty Revolution

Apparently Glamour is following the lead Dove took (how many years ago now?) taking a stand behind real women with real figures and sizes in the double digits on the rack at Macy's.

Now to see if they keep to their word, and follow up with realistic models in their spreads and editorials on a regular basis. One can't help but notice the spread on the following pages in this months issue are standard issue size 0-2 models. I guess we'll see - i hope it does become the norm, better late than never!

update: the hypothesis behind this piece seems to be that beauty comes in whatever size you are, be that a size 2 or a size 12, now that i like.

Levi's Gets Patriotic - Go Forth

When the crackled patriotic speech (that immediately conjures images of an old phonograph, and speeches from presidents long past) breaks through the TV set it always grabs my attention. I'm not sure if its the message, or just the uniqueness of the audio that does it, probably just the romance of the crackle that i love so much. The tracks are said to be original recordings of Walt Whitman reading his poems, Pioneers, and America. Set to images of Americana for Levi's Jeans this is the makings of the current Go Forth campaign via Weiden+Kennedy, Portland.

The print supplements to the campaign come from one of my favorite photographers Ryan McGinley. (thanks to homotography for the imagery)

Amex Finds Smiling Faces in Everyday Objetcs

American Express launched a new campaign recently, "Don't Take Chances, Take Charge." I caught the spot on the NFL opening light last week and of course fell in love with the simple and creative use of the faces found out and about in our world. The campaign included a slew of full page adds in papers across the country. Cute huh?

for kicks, here's a fabulous flickr collection of faces on everyday objects.

Digging for Vinyl

These ads for Merchant Records popped up on Ads of the World today - I like the idea, though i might have executed it differently, done it animated, or as a kid in a sandbox or something - regardless I like vinyl in advertising - makes me smile.

Also, i have records on the brain as I met my wedding DJ last night - who knew it'd make me so excited?!

ps. i know i said these and only posted one ad, they are all the same basically the same with different shoes, the shortcomings of the campaign.

Mad Men Inspired Bacardi Ads

I have a problem. After each new episode of Mad Men I find myself scouring for the vintage ads the team is working on that week. I just want to see if their ideas are real and authentic to the brand strategy or are fabricated for the show. I know what the answer probably is, but I still look.

In honor of this week's Bacardi brainstorming session, here are some vintage Bacardi Rum Ads for your enjoyment.
ps. I know they aren't all from the 60's but I think they still work well together as a group.

Absolut Boston

I had the good fortune to experiment with the black tea infused limited edition Absolut Boston Vodka this weekend - and boy is it good! A dear friend and bartender at Harvard Square's Tommy Doyle's found what I think is the perfect mixed drink for the new flavor - spontaneously but aptly named (considering the smaaaht kids that frequent the pub) - Absolut Genius. Locals stop in for one ASAP as the vodka is a limited promotion and will not be available forever!

...what's it say on the bottle? "In a city rich with monuments commemorating a nation, the one monument that stands above all others is a dented green wall 37 feet tall, 240 feet long and soem 310 feet from home plate down the left field line."

NotEvenOnce.com

"Our first campaign focused on the impact Meth has on the individual—the user. Our latest ads show the collateral damage that occurs to users' family and friends. This new concept is based directly on input from teens."

Amy Martin Time Travel Posters

How cool are these posters from the future by LA artist Amy Matrin? I love the nautilus shell and the overall clean graphic look. I think they could live in effortless unison with WPA Vintage Parks Posters, maybe I need to redecorate?Check out Poster District for more info about the artist, how to buy, and the charity the proceeds support.

Sea Monkey Revival

Or did they never really go away and it's just that I grew up? The weird little shrimp that have been fascinating kids and grossing out parents for 40 years have a new print campaign. The illustrations haven't changed much - which is good for them - it's their greatest marketing tool. I know I wanted a cute pink illustrated Sea friend on my dresser, and presumably unlike the masses i was disappointed with the creepy alien bugs that hatched and never turned pink or sprouted fun accessories.I heard the news on adfreak, and was happily surprised to find out the agency behind it was Gertrude - they seem to be one to much churning out more and more good work.

Craving some vintage Sea Monkey Love? Here's some of the weirdness...

Why Don't Cartoons Change Their Clothes?

Well, Woolite's newest print campaign doesn't have the answer, but they are making sure their colors don't fade with all of the washing needed to keep that outfit clean day in and day out.

Being and animation, illustration and cartoon lover I was instantly drawn to this print campaign from Euro RSCG Puerto Rico. The image of these iconic outfits drying on the line gives such a sweet sense of whats going on behind the scenes of the classic cartoons. I also think the bright rich cartoon colors are a fantastic pairing for a product selling it's color stay capabilities. For Everyday Colors, really nice.

Robert McGinnis Brings Stella Artois to the Big Screen

Check out the latest addition to the 60's inspired Stella Artois Campaign, a pair of print and billboard ads. Why do these ads look so authentic? Because they are! They are illustrated by Paperback and Movie Poster Illustrator Robert McGinnis. McGinnis' portfolio is seemingly endless and includes cover art for all of the Bond Books and pin up art that has come to represent an iconic 60s and 70s aesthetic.
