xbox "Clay"

Speaking of clay, I couldn't help but think of this spot directed/animated by Shaun Sewter of Moo Studios when I saw the new BMW commercial.

It's old, i know, but it's so good! Moo also has a making of video shot in time lapse and narrated by Sewter himself. take a peek.

BMW x6 "Clay" Commercial

While waiting for a ride home from the auto mechanic this morning I saw this ad on air. It's always a nice surprise for me to be forced to watch a program I may not otherwise watch, because I get a whole new lineup of commercials I wouldn't otherwise see.

This BMW commercial caught my eye, I like how it gives the perception that you are watching a work in progress and are peeking in on the creative process.

The spot is directed by Andrew van der Westhuyzen of Collider Design Firm, and the music is by composer Felix Bloxsom.

Helios Design Labs - Black Berry

I saw this stop-motion animation for BlackBerry on 'boards this morning. It prompted me to check out the website of the production company, Helios Design Labs, turns out they have an entire portfolio of great creative work. I love animation and it always makes me smile to find people who are lucky enough to base their careers on it.

New R.E.M. Video

R.E.M.'s newest video, 'Hollow Man,' premiered yesterday. Yes, I'm an R.E.M. fan, but you can't deny there is something captivating about all of their videos. They may not always use cutting edge technology of film tricks, but there is always something very human about them and they are always just a little off center.

'Hollow Man' takes a seat in line with greats such as 'Everybody Hurts,' 'Losing My Religion,' 'Electrolite,' and 'Shiny Happy People.'

Photographer Jean-Pierre Khazem Unlocks the secrets in Campers' Box

This is the second wave in the Campers "Box" campaign, with the tagline Imagination Walks.

The phot
ographer, Jean-Pierre Khazem, allows imagination to ooze from all of his work, whether for advertising, portraits or art pieces. Much of his images garner a second look, for what may seem to be a beautiful portrait at first glance has an eerie air to it, many times because the subjects are wearing masks making them more like wax figures or paintings.

It's worth taking a few minutes to check out his portfolio.

Adidas Left Right Project

Adidas Originals has produced a new spectacle to celebrate the Classic Superstar. They created enormous replicas of the shoes and had two art collaboratives, one on the East Coast, one on the West, customize their shoe and then meet face to face in Venice Beach to show off their work.

Surface to Air
NY took on the Right Side and Upper Playground took on the Left.

Check out the video of the process.

Sun-Rype Swing

How cute is this? I don't know what it is but everything about it makes me feel sunshiney and carefree...

The spot is from DDB Vancouver and Joyrider Films London. Joyrider has a really great roster of directors and animators.

Reebok and Kool-Aid @ Sportie LA

I'm in LA for work, having an event tonight so not much time to write. Sportie L.A. had another hopping Sneaker Party last night to celebrate the new Kool-Aid line of Reeboks...good times, good jams, and lots of nice kicks.

Bud Light Carpet Commercial

Because most of my spring nights are spent watching the Red Sox on NESN, I am bombarded with predominantly bad local commercials staring the rookie ball players. Last night I was surprised to see a national ad for Bud Light that I hadn't seen before and that made me chuckle...

Looks like it was supposed to be a Super Bowl spot that didn't make the show, but I think it's pretty funny either way.

Dodge Stands out in an Animated World

I don't know exactly what it is about this spot that I like so much. First I think it's the song that sounds like it could be off of Weezer's Pinkerton album, and then I think its the fact that the animated black and white world is really cute, and the red Dodge pops off the screen in comparison.

I think it's great use of visual design to draw attention to the product. The big minus is the voice over, ruins the song for me, but whatchagonna do, I bet the directors cut is great.

The agency is BBDO NY, and the Animation comes from Charlex, also NY.

Images of Summer from Ryan McGinley

I read about Ryan McGinley's new show in New York today on Nylon. I fell in love with this I know Where the Summer Goes series on his site. The spirit in the body language and the details of the subjects are so precious. The tan lines and the bumps and bruises add the the carefree spirit and the authenticity of the images. They are just really beautiful nude portraits, I think they are inspirational.

Three Legged Legs Create Dancing Zombies for Zune

I love Three Legged Legs, the directing trio from Green Dot Films. Their newest work is a venture into puppetry, a zombie adventure for Zune, "Pieces of Me, Pieces of You."

You can watch a behind the scenes podcast here.
and here is some character design from the artists..

Toots

I'm a little tired today, was out on a work night and just don't have the stamina I once did. Saw Toots and the Maytals, such a fun show, so much energy, soul, and Red Stripe. You know they're gonna be a good time just from the album art.

The highlight for me was the often covered Monkey Man. Here are some for your enjoyment.

The Specials - Monkey Man
Amy Winehouse - Monkey Man
Reel Big Fish - Monkey Man

Swedish Fish

I love gummy candy of all kinds, sour watermelons, gummy worms, but none beats the Swedish Fish...though the Cat Sandwich is looking pretty yummy.

I found these on
Ads of the World, they come via JWT New York.

Missing Pieces by Samah Tokmachi

A dear friend of mine, Samah Tokmachi, has a short film that is a semi-finalist in the Now Film Festival. Missing Pieces, a comedy, is now appearing on MySpace where Samah needs feedback to help the film get off the web and into the Now Film Fest that will be screening in Los Angeles.

If you need more of a hook before you go watch it and vote for it, the word testicles appears in it more than a dozen times and it stars Rainn Wilson ( The Office, Six Feet Under.) A little star power never hurts anyone.

You can watch the film here but please - give it a thumbs up on Myspace...

Set Design for Anthropologie Home

OK, so this isn't really advertising, but it's a catalog so I'm saying it kinda is. As a former art department girl I am in love with the wrapped sets in the new Anthropologie Home catalog. It's so cute, arts and crafts with sophisticated twist. What I love about Anthropologie is that they are so aware of their own aesthetic and play with it so well in all of their mediums, from the website, to the mailers, to the stores themselves.

Chilean Lotto Embraces a Retro Vibe

I love these print ads, I stumbled upon them over on Ads of the World. As a fan of vintage advertising I was instantly drawn the the aesthetic of them, part Hockney's poolside boys, part pin up, part retro travel agency.

The ads come from JWT/Chile, and were illustrated by Abel. I'm trying to find out more about the illustrator, if anyone knows anything please share!

Bjork Wanderlust

Like many, I have been anxiously awaiting the release of this latest video from Bjork. It's been created fully in 3d and taken more than 9 months to complete. The hype has been pretty nuts.

It was finally released yesterday and MySpace, of all places, is where you can find the 2d version along with a making of video. You can also view it in hi-res on Encyclopedia Pictura’s site.

Wanderlust - 2d

Wanderlust - the making of wanderlust

The piece was created by Ghost Robot and UVPH. It was directed by duo Enclyclopedia Pictura. Feed has been one of the resources I've been following this project on, they've had interviews, stills and constant updates.

You Suck Sarah Marshall

When I was in New York last week I couldn't help but notice the posters splattering the city to promote the new film, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I think they are pretty great, eye catching and funny, "My Mom Always Hated you Sarah Marshall" is one of my favorites.Of course there is a website in the style of a blog for the film, ihatesarahmarshall. And, what I though was quite smart, a flickr page where people can share their photos of the campaign.
